The Garden
Date
Autumn 2016
Location
Bensussan Han, Thessaloniki, Greece
Project type
Site-specific performance
Role
Director, Technologist
The Garden was an immersive, site-specific performance by Prosechós Subway and the dance group Via Contact by Katerina Tsoumana. The production reimagined the architecture of the two-century-old Bensousan Han in Thessaloniki (built in 1817) through the lens of industrial aesthetics, blending theatre, dance, music, visual arts, and interactive technologies.
As a unique "exhibition-style" performance, audiences were free to move through the rooms of the historic inn, encountering a series of acts that included excerpts from Hamletmachine by Heiner Müller, live music inspired by industrial genres, and a painting performance by French artist Philippe de La Ferrière, who created a piece of industrial aesthetic art in real time. The performance also incorporated interactive technologies, enabling adaptive architectural elements that responded to the audience's presence and movement, enhancing the immersive experience.
The creative team included:
Directors: Pavlos Panagiotidis, Stellina Vogiatzis
Sound Design: Stellina Vogiatzis
Set Design: Rozy Monaki
Costumes: Stellina Vogiatzis
Visual Design: Lela Ramoglou

The Garden was an experiment in site-specific performance, combining art forms and adaptive technologies to transform a historic space into a contemporary, industrial-inspired, interactive stage.
